Presley Gerber’s body has been released after an autopsy was completed.
According to online records viewed by Us, Gerber’s cause of death is still listed as “deferred,” with no timetable for when official results will be released. No foul play is suspected at this time.
The Los Angeles Medical Examiner previously confirmed to Us on Monday, September 21, that additional testing needs to be done in order to make a determination.
“The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner (DME) is in the early stages of investigating the death of 27-year-old model Presley Gerber and limited information is currently available,” the medical examiner’s office said in a statement to Us on Monday. “A deputy medical examiner performed an examination today and the cause and manner of death have been deferred, which means additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination. Due to the ongoing death investigation, the DME cannot disclose what testing and/or studies were requested. Deferred cases can take a few months before a cause of death is determined.”
Us can also confirm Gerber was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m. local time on Monday, September 20, by responding paramedics. He was 27.
The Santa Monica Police Department in California is the investigating law enforcement agency for the case.
Prior to his death, Presley was open about his mental health struggles and battles with addiction. During a 2023 podcast interview, the son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber explained why he wanted to share parts of his life story.
“Whether I help one person or a 100 people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that’s all I need to do,” Presley explained during an episode of the “Studio 22” podcast. “I’ve had a lot of time to look into myself and learn about myself with therapists.”
Throughout the highs and lows of addiction, Presley had the support of his family, including sister Kaia Gerber.
“My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything — and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, ‘I’m gonna be very human for everyone,’” Kaia, 25, told Vogue in August 2026. “There’s only so much you can hide from the world. And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.”
