Prince Harry joked around with Barack Obama before he interviewed the former president for BBC Radio 4’s Today program.
In a video shared by Kensington Palace on Sunday, December 17, the newly engaged royal, 33, can be seen seated at a table with Obama, 56.
“Do I have to speak faster? I’m a slow speaker,” the president asks Harry as they prepare for the interview that the Associated Press reports took place in September, when the pair were in Toronto for the Invictus Games (where Harry made his first joint public appearance with then-girlfriend Meghan Markle).
“No, not at all,” Harry replies.
“Do I need a British accent?” Obama asks.
“No, but if you start using long pauses between answers you’re probably going to get ‘the face,”’ Harry answers.
“Let me see the face,” Obama says with a smile as Harry gives him a serious look.
“I don’t want to see that face,” the politician responds.
Harry then explains to Obama that there will be a 20-minute segment packaged from their 40-minute-long interview that’s set to air on Wednesday, December 27, with plans to use the entire conversation as a podcast afterward.
Just before they begin, Harry, who has a pen and paper with questions in front of him, says, “You’re excited about this. I’m nervous about this.”
“It’s fun,” Obama replies. “I’ll interview you if you want.”
“No, let’s keep it this way. I much prefer that,” Harry says as a blush creeps up his face.
Kensington Palace revealed on Sunday that the interview will focus “on their shared interest in building platforms for the next generation of young leaders.”
The interview includes Obama’s memories of the day he left the White House and his hopes for his life after the presidency, including his plans for the Obama Foundation.
