Prince William might be about to get really hungry! The British royal made a joke at the expense of his wife, Duchess Kate Middleton, during a gala dinner in aid of East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH) Wednesday, June 22, teasing that her cooking skills left little to be desired!

The self-effacing royals were preparing to feast on a five-course meal prepared by five Michelin starred chefs at the lavish Houghton Hall, 3.5 miles from their Anmer Hall residence, when Duchess Kate, 34, suggested her husband might be looking forward to a break from her home cooking.

“William has to put up with my cooking most of the time," the Duchess of Cambridge told the chefs. And rather than chivalrously denying that his wife lacked finesse in the kitchen, cheeky Prince William, also 34, went along with the joke.

"It's the reason I'm so skinny," he retorted.

The good-natured royal duo were guests of honor at the event, which was expected to raise well in excess of £100,000 toward the cost of building a new hospice for the charity (for which Middleton is a patron), in their home county of Norfolk.

Around 80 guests, including some benefactors from America, were at the dinner, hosted by the royal couple's friends, the Marquess and Marchioness of Cholmondeley, who own the magnificent Palladian mansion.

There was no charge for the dinner but guests were invited to make substantial donations toward the appeal for the new £10 million hospice, the Nook, to replace one that is out of date and no longer fit for service.

As Us Weekly reported previously, the thrifty duchess stunned in a Jenny Packham gown embellished with pearlescent rose sequins and Swarovski crystals — the exact same outfit she wore nearly five years ago to the day, for her very first royal engagement after she married Prince William.

After the dinner, the EACH Treehouse Choir gave a performance, which was followed by a speech from parent Charlotte Markham, who had received care and support from EACH when her son, Elliot, died at just a few hours old.
