Ryan and Reese are still on good terms. Ryan Phillippe opened up about his 2007 divorce from ex-wife Reese Witherspoon during a recent appearance on Larry King Now. The Secrets and Lies actor kept details of their unraveling marriage close to the vest, but did pinpoint one reason it didn't work out.
"I think more of the problem was age. When we got together we were so young," Phillippe, 40, who met the Wild actress on her 21st birthday, explained. "I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there's so much noise that goes along with it."
Phillippe noted that the exes are "very much" still friends, and have remained amicable while raising their daughter Ava, 15, and son Deacon, 11. He also told King that he's not too worried for when his baby girl starts to date.
"I grew up in a very, very female household so I have a real sensitivity with that connection with [Ava] because of that," he said. "I don't think she'll suffer fools. She's going to have high standards."
As for his bad boy image? "I'm a pretty regular dude," he said, disregarding the label. "I'm also a pretty dedicated dad and have multiple companies, so there's not a lot of time for me to be a Hollywood bad boy."
Phillippe and Witherspoon, 38, went their separate ways after eight years of marriage amid rumors that the actor had cheated with Australian actress Abby Cornish. (Phillippe also has daughter Kailani, 3, with Pitch Perfect 2 actress Alexis Knapp.)
The Crash star has since moved on, and has been dating civil rights lawyer Paulina Slagter for the last four years. After a two-year romance with Jake Gyllenhaal, Witherspoon married CAA agent Jim Toth in March 2011. They welcomed son Tennessee, now 2, the following year.
