“Words can never convey the appreciation Michele, the boys and I have for all those who expressed their love and support the last week and a half,” the Kansas state representative, 44, told The Kansas City Star. “‘Thank you’ seems so inadequate to express our appreciation, but it is the only phrase we have. So, from the depths of our hearts, we thank you.”

As previously reported, Caleb was killed while riding Verrückt, the world’s tallest waterslide, at Schlitterbahn water park in Kansas City on August 7. The two women riding with the young boy suffered minor injuries. Caleb’s death remains under investigation.

“While we try to step forward into the new normal life without Caleb in our presence, we find hope with the current investigation into the incident to provide answers and assurances that such tragedy would not strike again,” Scott continued on Tuesday.

Scott’s attorney, Michael Rader of Leawood law firm Bartimus Frickleton Robertson, also released a statement to The Kansas City Star, saying that the water park “continues to cooperate with our independent investigation surrounding the tragic loss of Caleb Schwab.”

“I can say that my firm and I, along with our team of experts, are doing everything in our power to ensure that all questions surrounding the cause of this tragedy are fully answered,” Rader added.

The Verrückt waterslide has been shut down since last week’s incident. Initial reports stated that the raft that was carrying Caleb was underweight, but a Kansas City public information officer later told Us Weekly the raft met the required weight. A funeral was held for Caleb on August 12.
