Mama once more? Sherri Shepherd may have become a mother for the second time, as the surrogate who was carrying a child for the former View host and her estranged husband Lamar "Sal" Sally reportedly gave birth.
According to TMZ, the unnamed surrogate welcomed a baby boy on Tuesday, Aug. 5 in Pennsylvania with Sally in attendance. It remains to be seen who will be the caretaker for the child, after Shepherd and Sally's relationship turned notably sour.
In May, Sally filed for divorce from Shepherd, 47. The couple was married in August 2011 after getting engaged in December 2010. Following the divorce filing, there have been widespread rumors and reports about a complicated battle over childcare, and whether Shepherd will have a role in the baby's life. For her part, Shepherd remained steadfastly quiet on The View and other public appearances about the drama.
"The baby is not something she was ready to discuss at all," a source told Us Weekly in May about Shepherd's demeanor as of late. "She had to have known things weren't going well with Sal so didn't want to say anything."
"I say you can't beat yourself up when you know you've made the wrong choice in a guy," the television personality told Us in June of the split. "You look, you do some introspective work, and you try not to make the same mistake. If you do, get back up, dust your feet off, and start walking and moving forward."
This is the second failed marriage for Shepherd. She was previously wed to Jeff Tarpley from 2001 to 2010, and welcomed son Jeffrey with him in April 2005. She recently maintained custody of the 9-year-old boy in court, when Tarpley attempted to obtain full custody of their son in April.
Shepherd has yet to comment on the reported birth.
