Always in her heart. Sheryl Sandberg took to Facebook on Sunday, October 2, to pay tribute to her late husband, Dave Goldberg, on what would have been his 49th birthday.

The Facebook COO and Lean In author, 47, told her followers that Goldberg’s special day happened to fall on Erev Rosh Hashanah, the eve of the Jewish New Year, a day when it is customary for believers to say prayers celebrating the "birthday of the world."

"As my children and I do every day, we miss him and mourn that he was taken from us so suddenly and so soon," Sandberg wrote alongside a photo of herself and Goldberg smiling. "We miss his smile, his generosity, his wisdom, and his love."

The businesswoman then went on to say that Erev Rosh Hashanah is a day dedicated to recommitting “to being better and working harder to move the world toward what it should be: more just, more equal, more compassionate, more kind” — qualities of Goldberg’s that she deeply cherished.

“For all of us who knew and loved Dave, this is the perfect spirit to honor his memory,” Sandberg continued. “Dave set an example we all still strive to live up to. Dave, the world is a better place for the years you lived — and we will always celebrate the day of your birth. I love you, Dave.”

As Us Weekly previously reported, Goldberg died on May 1, 2015, from fatal head trauma and blood loss after he fell on a treadmill while he and his wife were vacationing in Mexico. The pair were married for 11 years and shared two young children together. One year after her beloved spouse’s tragic passing, Sandberg remembered him in another sweet Facebook post.

“My deepest thanks to my family and friends who have shared their memories of Dave and carried me and my children through this past year,” she shared at the time. “I will always miss you, Dave. There is no end to love.”
