Tatyana Ali is balancing Dancing With the Stars and motherhood with the help of those closest to her.
The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum, 47, exclusively opened up to Us about how she’s managing her time rehearsing for season 35 of the show and raising her two sons. “Like any working mom, I have a village to help me,” she said after her performance with pro Jan Ravnik on Tuesday, September 29.
“I have moms back home who are helping me out. My parents, you know, moms need a village,” Ali explained. “They’re helping me a lot.”
Her family is supporting her in the ballroom as well. “My dad is here, and my friends and their kids, and yeah, you want to make your family proud, but it’s also nice to know you have a cheering section,” she gushed, noting that she received many texts encouraging her.
During the show’s Yacht Rock night, Ali danced a quickstep with Ravnik, 31, to Daryl Hall & John Oates’ song “Maneater.” They scored a 21 out of 30.
“I’m having an incredible time,” Ali told Us. “I’m having so much fun. It’s hard work, and [Jan] is not playing around, but it’s so much fun, and I loved the quickstep.”
Last night, Taylor Hanson and Britt Stewart were eliminated after scoring an 18 out of 30 for their foxtrot to The Doobie Brothers’ “What a Fool Believes.”
Ali shares her kids, Edward, 10, and Alejandro, 7, with her husband Dr. Vaughn Rasberry.
She and Rasberry, 48, met on the dating platform eHarmony in 2014. After Skyping and writing letters to each other, they met in person. Two years later, Raspberry proposed during a hike in Yosemite, California. She announced their engagement and her first pregnancy at the time. In July 2016, they tied the knot in Beverly Hills, California.
Two months later, Ali gave birth to Edward. In August 2019, they became a family of four with the birth of Alejandro.
Through her time on Dancing With the Stars, Ali has improved each week. For premiere night, she and Ravnik danced a jive to “Knock on Wood’ by Amii Stewart. They scored a 12 out of 30.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba clarified that they wanted to “leave room for growth” before giving her a 4 out of 10.
Their second performance was a foxtrot to Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” They improved their scores and earned an 18 out of 30.
