Teen Mom alum Amber Portwood is offering a rare glimpse into her dynamic with ex Andrew Glennon and their 8-year-old son, James, four years after their custody dispute.
“When it comes to my son, James, [it is] amazing,” Amber, 36, said in Thursday, November 5, YouTube video. “[I] just spent time with him in California. I spend time with him when we’re not with each other. We play video games and [I am often] watching him play video games, like, he is so excited to show me everything.”
Amber welcomed James in 2018 with Andrew, who was granted sole legal and physical custody of their son in 2022.
“My son does … Brazilian jiu-jitsu. He is so f***ing good. He’s 8 years old, and he has now been pushed up in rank to the 10- to 13-year-old class. He’s very good,” Amber noted of James’ hobbies. “I asked him one time on the phone. I was like, ‘Do you think you can take your mommy now that you learned all this stuff?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, OK. We’ll see, we’ll see.’ So yeah, me and my son, we’re good.”
In addition to James, Amber is mom of estranged daughter Leah, 17, whom she shares with ex Gary Shirley.
“I have joint custody of my daughter. I respected her wishes because of what she had went through from my past s***,” she acknowledged of their estrangement. “When it comes to my son, guys, I am a full-on his mommy. I see him, we spend holidays together [and] things like that.”
Amber added, “I’m a good mom, like, we’re good. S*** happened with my and his father, [but] we are coparenting and we’re doing a very decent job at it. There’s just no malice there. Me and Andrew have already said to each other, ‘Sorry [on] both ends on what has all happened and transpired,’ and that’s all I need.”
Elsewhere in her YouTube vlog, Amber gave fans an update on her private relationship with her mystery boyfriend.
“We are coming up on our one-year anniversary on the first of this [upcoming] month. We’re doing magnificent,” Amber said. “I am so blessed to have a man like him. We are similar in a lot of ways but completely different. He’s a very calm, loving soul.”
Amber further gushed that her boyfriend, who has not been publicly identified, has a “brilliant mind.”
Amber debuted her relationship during a June 2025 TikTok livestream, revealing that she had been dating her beau for more than one month.
“He’s got a job for 20-something years, same exact job,” she said at the time. “He’s got a thick accent, and he’s super sweet to me.”
