Brooke Burke-Charvet has the full support of her Dancing With the Stars co-host, Tom Bergeron, as she battles thyroid cancer.
Although Burke-Charvet only announced her cancer diagnosis to fans on Thursday, Nov. 8, Bergeron has known for a few months.
"She knows my love and support are with her," Bergeron, 57, explained on The Talk Thursday. "I told her at the time she first told me that I've had experience with this in my family. You never want to hear the word 'cancer,' but thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable cancers. It has an incredibly high success rate."
Burke-Charvet, 41, revealed in a video on her Modern Mom blog that she had to undergo several medical tests to determine if the nodule on her thryoid gland was cancerous or benign. "I got my results back and they were not good," she said. "I need to have thyroid surgery, a thyroidectomy, which means that I am going to have a nice big scar, right here, across my neck."
But Bergeron is staying positive that Burke-Charvert's scarring won't be that bad. "In the hands of a very good surgeon, as I'm sure she has one, the scar doesn't necessarily have to be that visible," he said.
Although she has concerns over the surgery, the Playboy model, and mother of four, is also trying to keep a positive attitude. "Here's the way I see it: I'm going to make a positive out of this negative thing," she said. "I am going to be a really good patient and I am going to do everything I need to do. I booked my surgery and it's taken me a couple months to really wrap my head around this."
On Friday she tweeted, "Morning. Wow, some news coverage yesterday. I'm feeling good. The C word sounds worse and scarier than it really feels."
