Now this is the bees’ knees! Two contestants on NBC’s The Voice got engaged on the Monday, Sept. 28 episode of the competition series after their blind audition, and the judges’ reactions — including the faces of newly single Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton — were memorable.
The collaborating couple, Amanda Preslar and Jubal Lee Young, performed their rendition of “Seven Bridges Road” by The Eagles, prompting Stefani and Pharrell Williams to turn their chairs around. (Fun fact: Jubal’s father, Steve Young, actually penned the smash song for The Eagles.)
Following their blind audition, the ecstatic Tulsa, Okla. natives stood before the judges’ panel to hear their critiques. “To hear the harmony, it was very seductive,” Stefani explained of why she had turned her chair. “There was some kind of special energy in it as well. You could tell that you guys have something special.”
The duo, known as Jubal and Amanda, were subsequently asked by Shelton if they were a couple. “You married?” the country superstar inquired.
“Not yet,” replied Amanda. “One day.”
Her boyfriend then replied, “Alright,” pulling out a ring from his back pocket, and bending down on one knee.
“Whoa!” yelped Shelton. “What is happening?!”
Meanwhile, fellow judge Stefani looked shocked and exclaimed with a smile, “Are you serious?!”
The romantic moment for Jubal and Amanda was exchanged after a rough summer for both Shelton and Stefani, who both recently split from their spouses Miranda Lambert and Gavin Rossdale, respectively.
