Walmart took to Twitter on Monday, Oct. 27, and apologized to shoppers for a Halloween subcategory on its website entitled "fat girl costumes." (Yes, really!)
Jezebel was first notified by an online shopper of the insane description of costumes, which resembled those in the Women's Plus Size Adult section. One shopper also pointed out on Twitter: "@Walmart Not sure labeling these as 'Fat Girl Costumes' is the best approach. #rude."
The retailer apologized to the shopper, awkwardly replying to the tweet: "@ItsWithaY Your comments and suggestions are important to us and help make Walmart even better. Thank you. — Nao."
Another shopper tweeted at the store: "Congrats on your 'Fat Girl Costumes' section. Always keepin it classy, eh @Walmart?" to which the chain responded with more acknowledgement: "This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable and we apologize."
On top of the "Fat Girls" section was also a banner which read: "Make it a monstrously big Halloween for less."
Hours later, the costumes in the category were removed from the site and the section was deleted entirely.
