As 2013 comes to a close, let's reflect on some of this year's top stories. This summer the nation's attention was directed to Kate Middleton's baby bump before her July 22 delivery.

Middleton and hubby Prince William welcomed son Prince George, but the third in line to the British throne wasn't the only buzzed-about celebrity birth.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West welcomed daughter North West in June, whom the rapper has since compared to British royalty and purchased a mini Lamborghini for. The heavily photographed trio didn't stop there.

On Kardashian's 33rd birthday in October, West popped the question in a romantic proposal at San Francisco's AT&T Park complete with a live orchestra and giant Lorraine Schwartz diamond.

And though Kimye's rock was dazzling, few things could keep former Disney queen Miley Cyrus out of the headlines. The twerktastic youngster lit up the August 2013 Video Music Awards when she rubbed up against Robin Thicke and did things to a foam finger that were surprisingly aired on live TV.

And she was only just getting started. The debut of her hit album Bangerz and the racy nude music video for her emotional ballad "Wrecking Ball" solidified her noteworthy status. The 21-year-old also ended her engagement to Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth, but she did so with her head held high and her tongue sticking out.

But not all news this year was light-hearted or ridiculous. In July 2013 Glee fans worldwide suffered a shocking blow when it was announced that star Cory Monteith had been found dead in his Vancouver hotel room from a drug and alcohol overdose.

The young actor was mourned by the Fox show's devoted fan base, his Glee cast, and costar and girlfriend Lea Michele in the October tribute episode "The Quarterback."
