Amber Heard spent almost 10 hours at a law office on Saturday, August 6 — but was never deposed by estranged husband Johnny Depp’s attorneys. So what happened? Insiders close to both stars have very different interpretations about this latest chapter in their legal battle.
A source close to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor, 53, says that The Danish Girl actress, 30, was “coming up with all kinds of excuses” to avoid the deposition.
“Johnny wants to settle and they are working on a settlement,” the Depp source tells Us Weekly. “But Amber showed up 90 minutes late for her deposition and then refused to give her deposition.” The insider further alleges that Heard is “delaying this because she wants more money.” The source also believes that Heard is stalling because she has “something to hide.”
According to a source close to Heard, however, she arrived for her scheduled deposition at Depp’s lawyer’s office in Los Angeles around 11 a.m., but was late because she could not find a private entrance to the building until around 11:30 a.m.
“Although Amber was ready, willing and able to go forward with her deposition, it was not taken by Johnny’s attorneys,” the insider says. “She waited for 10 hours and at no time did Amber ever refuse to start the deposition.”
The Depp source adds that the estranged spouses haven’t been in the same room since their May split, and that Depp has tried repeatedly to get Heard to settle.
In new documents filed by Depp’s attorney Laura Wasser on Tuesday, August 9, and obtained by Us Weekly, Heard reportedly refused to enter the deposition room on Saturday. “She refused to testify despite repeated requests from Johnny’s counsel and instead sat with her lawyers, cried on the telephone, yelled, screamed and paced in a separate room,” the documents claim.
The Heard source maintains to Us, however, “that there was nothing preventing Johnny’s counsel from commencing during the deposition time.”
Depp’s deposition is scheduled for Wednesday, August 10. The hearing for Depp’s domestic violence restraining order remains scheduled for Monday, August 15, and Tuesday, August 16.
