Sometimes Jinger Duggar still can’t believe she’s been married to Jeremy Vuolo for almost a decade.
“I do think that probably when we got married, there was some of that in me,” Duggar, 32, recalled on the Wednesday, June 10, episode of the couple’s podcast, referring to the concept of perfectionism. “I think I had a lot of that still in me [from 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On] where I was trying to perform [and] have everything together.”
She continued, “I think looking at that, I’m amazed that you even married me because I think it was really God that allowed you to marry me and helped me to see that I don’t have to be like that, I don’t have to perform … and my heart was genuine and wanting to do what was right, but I also had that other side of it where it was like trying to make everybody happy all the time.”
Duggar and Vuolo, 38, got married in 2016 after adhering to her family’s courtship tradition. The couple eventually started distancing themselves from the strict, conservative religious teachings that Duggar’s family followed throughout her childhood.
“Jer came on the scene and I think my hesitation was mainly because of him being outside of my world,” Duggar previously told Us Weekly in 2023. “That can be a fearful thing when you’re in that culture. I had such confidence, though. I remember coming back [from a date] and telling my mom, ‘I feel so safe with him. Like, he is everything that I’ve ever wanted.’”
She added at the time, “He wasn’t in our setting, which is just crazy to think about, but he loved God and he was committed to the word of God and lived his life according to it. And that’s where I found, ‘OK, this guy is an awesome guy.’ It’s exactly what I’ve wanted.”
Vuolo, for his part, also felt confident in his connection with the Counting On alum despite any differences.
“I was not nervous marrying you, [but] I was very nervous to get married,” he said on Wednesday. “There’s no way to prepare for what happens in marriage. All of my wildest dreams couldn’t have compared to what marriage has been, but I was very nervous to get married growing up because I’d seen so many marriages explode.”
Duggar and Vuolo welcomed daughters Felicity and Evangeline in 2018 and 2020, respectively, and son Finnegan in 2025.
