Why Kim Cattrall Publicly Lashed Out at Sarah Jessica Parker (Exclusive)

She had her reasons. Sarah Jessica Parker reached out to Kim Cattrall after her brother’s death, but her remarks were not welcome. Now a source exclusively explains why to Us Weekly.

Although the Mannequin star, 61, faced backlash for posting that she doesn’t “need [her] love or support at this tragic time,” her feelings about the Divorce actress, 52, have been building up for some time, according to the insider.

“There’s no love lost. When you haven’t talked to someone in eight years, a public comment on Instagram isn’t the most personal,” the source tells Us. “SJP could have reached out via personal channels. It could have been genuine but it didn’t need to be a spectacle. Doing it on social media struck a nerve with Kim because SJP knows how to reach her privately.”

The insider adds that the former costars began feuding while filming their hit HBO series, Sex and the City, in the late ‘90s. “By season 2 they hated each other. There was a lot of pettiness on set,” the insider claims, noting that Cattrall often felt left out by her castmates. But a different source notes, “Their costars can’t understand why Kim lashed out. It wasn’t this bad during filming.”

As previously reported in the new issue of Us Weekly, Cattrall and Parker clashed on set. “You have two strong, famous women competing for the same thing,” the source tells Us. “Of course it wasn’t nice.”

Cattrall made headlines in October 2017 when she slammed Parker for criticizing her decision to not move forward with a third film, telling Piers Morgan that The Family Stone actress “could have been nicer.”

Parker had appeared on Extra the month before to confirm that the franchise would not continue. “I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story,” she said at the time. “It’s just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience.”

But Cattrall never wanted to continue with the films in the first place. “Kim never wanted to do the first two movies … It was not a great environment for Kim,” the source adds. “There was no way she’d be a part of a third movie.”
