Brady Harmon shared the final text message he received from his ex-wife, Sarah Myers, before she and her mother, Amy Steadman, allegedly killed their four children in a murder-suicide.
Authorities believe that Myers, 44, and Steadman, 64, died by suicide after they killed Harper, 13, Hudson, 11, and twins Gavin and Gracelyn, 10, at a home in Mechanicville, New York. Gavin was reportedly stabbed, while the other children were believed to be poisoned.
Harmon took to Facebook on Tuesday, August 4, to explain that he scheduled a video call with the children on the day they apparently died. However, the phone call never happened and Harmon claimed that Myers told him the children were sick.
“The kids have gotten a little stomach bug throwing up is it okay to switch your online visit to tomorrow night at 4 p.m. your time please,” Myers wrote in a text message, which Harmon shared a screenshot of in the post.
Harmon responded by saying he hoped they would feel better and he followed up the next day to reschedule the call and asked, “Are the kiddos doing better?”
The screenshots showed that he tried calling several more times and never got a response from Myers.
Alongside the screenshots, Harmon shared a lengthy caption to address the latest updates in the case. At one point, Harmon address Steadman’s suicide note, in which she claimed they were killing the kids to protect them from their father. Myers and Steadman accused Harmon of being abusive, though he has adamantly denied the claims.
“I cannot understand how anyone could claim that this was done to ‘save’ my children from harm,” he wrote. “The greatest possible harm was done to them. They were terrified, betrayed, and robbed of their lives by the very people who were supposed to protect them.”
At the time of the killings, Harmon had not seen his children since 2019 as he lives in Utah and they lived in New York. However, the children were killed as they prepared to spend the summer with him in Utah.
Harmon also shared messages that he and Myers exchanged in the days leading up to the killings, in which he sent her their flight information and inquired about child support.
The father added in the caption that the conversations he had with Sarah gave him no indication that she was planning the murder-suicide.
“I believe the truth would have begun coming out once they were safely with me,” he wrote. “They would have experienced the loving side of their family they had been separated from and taught to fear. Instead of allowing that relationship to be restored, the people responsible chose to permanently silence four innocent children.”
Harmon’s caption concluded with a note about how his children deserved better.
“Harper, Hudson, Gavin, and Gracelynn were loved. They are still loved. They will always be loved,” he wrote. “They are now safe in the arms of those who went before them—people who would protect them, comfort them, and never cause them harm. Their names and memories will live on through everyone who truly loved them.”
He concluded, “I will continue speaking their names, telling their story, and fighting for the full truth about what happened to them.”
