Michael P. Desronvil, the holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy’s trial, was described as “an American hero” by his attorney after the high-profile case was declared a mistrial.
Attorney Edward Paltzik said in a statement via X on Thursday, September 17, that he has been hired to represent Desronvil, 48, after his refusal to find Clancy, 36, not guilty by reason of insanity led to an 11-1 deadlocked jury and a mistrial on September 4.
Paltzik said that Desronvil, who is from Plymouth County, Massachusetts, is “presently safe and sound at an undisclosed secure location in a rural area of Northern New England.”
“This American Hero and Champion of Justice loves the United States of America as the greatest country in the world; cherishes our sacred Constitution as the pinnacle of human liberty; and supports our amazing leader, President Donald J. Trump, as a fellow defender of common-sense, liberty, and sanity,” Paltzik continued.
The attorney went on to say that he will go “to the maximum extent of the law and beyond” against “the evil people who have so viciously attacked” his client following the trial. Desronvil has been subject to death threats and had his address and phone number doxxed in addition to facing scrutiny online.
“In the meantime, though, he has persevered and remains utterly unbroken thanks to his devout Catholic Faith,” the statement said. “As a devoted father and man of God, he will not be defeated or shattered by the wicked who wish harm upon him.”
Paltzik issued a statement on Friday, September 18, saying that Desronvil will not be giving any interviews.
“We are focused entirely on his health, safety, and well-being,” he said. “There will be a time for accountability and a time for the real story of the Lindsay Clancy Trial to be told. But not right now.”
Desronvil has faced plenty of backlash after he was revealed to be the holdout juror, and his brother told The New York Post on Tuesday, September 15, that their “family cannot leave the house” and people “are leaving notes at my mother’s house.”
Meanwhile, Desronvil came under fire when it was revealed that had been charged with misdemeanor domestic violence assault in 2021 following an incident with his then-wife. At the time, his 13-year-old nephew called 911 and claimed that he saw Desronvil grab the woman by the throat and throw her against a dresser. The charges were later dropped.
His legal issues continued in 2025 when the same teenage nephew who had called 911 obtained a restraining order against Desronvil, claiming he had pushed him to the ground and punched him in the face on several occasions. Desronvil was ordered to surrender any firearms and stay away from his nephew until August 11, 2026, as part of a civil protection order which was active during the early weeks of the Clancy trial.
Clancy was on trial for nearly seven weeks for the January 2023 murders of her kids Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. She never denied killing her kids, but the defense argued she should not be held criminally responsible due to her postpartum psychosis.
The prosecution has not yet revealed whether or not they plan to bring the case back to trial following the mistrial.
As the future of the case remains unclear, Trump, 80, weighed in on the situation after Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, asked him to pardon his client.
“It’s a very sad situation. I, I certainly heard that. But, look — it’s a very sad, there is no winner there,” Trump told reporters on Sunday, September 13.
He added, “There’s no, there’s no win, no matter what you do. It’s — three children are dead, so I don’t know.”
Trump then said that he could not pardon Clancy because the case is “actually a state situation” and “not a federal” case.
