A New Jersey man was arrested after he allegedly carried out two robberies, with one of the upsetting incidents ending in a sexual assault and another including him punching a nun.
Faheem Green has been accused of committing both robberies in Newark on Saturday, July 11.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. said that detectives identified and arrested Green, 25, the same day that the robberies took place after they reviewed surveillance video from both crime scenes, according to News 12.
The first robbery took place around 7:30 a.m. on Orange Street. A nun was walking on South 11th Street when Green allegedly approached her and punched her, which forced her to fall to the ground.
The man believed to be Green then stole her purse before he fled the scene. Meanwhile, the woman was taken to University Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
The next incident took place about 30 minutes later when a second woman told police that a man followed her after she got off a bus near Hudson Street and Central Avenue.
Authorities claimed that the man pointed a handgun at the woman and demanded she give him her purse. She handed over her belongings and he struck her with the gun. He then pushed her to the ground and forced pressure on her until she lost consciousness.
Once she regained consciousness, the woman realized that she had been sexually assaulted. She was then taken to University Hospital and is now in stable condition, according to the outlet.
After Green was linked to the two robberies, he was arrested and charged for both incidents. He was charged with robbery in connection to the first incident, and he has been charged with robbery, aggravated sexual assault during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault, attempted murder and criminal restraint in connection to the second incident.
“I commend our Major Crimes detectives for their diligence in identifying and apprehending this suspect on the same day that these incidents occurred,” Miranda said following the arrest, according to Pix 11. “Every Newark resident and visitor can feel safer due to this suspect being off our streets.”
It is not currently clear if Green has entered a plea or retained legal counsel following his arrest. The Newark Department of Public Safety did not immediately respond to Us’ request for comment regarding updates in the case.
The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
