A former New Jersey elementary school teacher who allegedly had a baby with a student has pleaded guilty in connection with sex acts involving the minor.
Laura Caron, of Middle Township, who used to teach fifth grade at Middle Township Elementary School, pleaded guilty on Wednesday, October 28, to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child with sexual conduct, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced in a news release.
Before her plea, Caron, 36, was previously indicted in June 2025 on charges of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and the child endangerment offense she pleaded guilty to, according to prosecutors.
The indictment came after Caron was charged in January 2025 following an investigation into her alleged “sexual relationship with a male juvenile victim,” the district attorney’s office said in the news release.
Caron was accused of an “inappropriate sexual relationship” with the student between 2016 and 2020, when the student had reportedly been living with her.
The student was 11 when Caron allegedly started assaulting him, People reported.
According to a probable cause statement viewed by the outlet, Caron had a baby girl in 2019, when the student was 13 and she was 28.
A criminal investigation ensued after the boy’s father took to social media in December 2024 and claimed Caron’s daughter looked like him and his son, per WPVI-TV.
As part of Caron’s guilty plea, she’s expected to be given five years in state prison at her sentencing, which is set for January 8, 2027, according to the district attorney’s office. She also must forfeit her teaching license and is prohibited from holding positions of public employment in the future.
Before she serves prison time, Caron will undergo an evaluation at the Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center at Avenel, a prison and psychiatric facility run by the New Jersey Department of Corrections.
The evaluation will “determine whether she is deemed repetitive and/or compulsive which could impact her sentence,” the district attorney’s office said.
Following her sentence, she’ll be required to register as a sex offender and will be on supervised parole for the rest of her life.
