‘The Bombing of Pan Am 103’ Season 1 (Netflix)
On December 21, 1988, a Pan Am 103 commercial jet exploded over the small town of Lockerbie, Scotland, killing everyone on board plus some people on the ground below. 270 lives were lost, and the entire nation of Scotland was scarred by the tragedy for years afterward.
Why did Pan Am 103 explode and who, if anyone, caused it? Those are the questions Scottish police officer Ed McCusker (Connor Swindells) and FBI agent Dick Marquise (Patrick J. Adams) have to answer in The Bombing of Pan Am 103, an excellent and sobering six-episode miniseries now streaming on Netflix. The show, which premiered on the BBC last year, does a superb job of recreating the events as they unfolded, from Lockerbie residents walking outside to find their city covered in flaming debris to the intense, often frustrating investigation in the months after the incident.
The best thing that can be said about The Bombing of Pan Am 103 is that it doesn’t sensationalize the tragedy it depicts; instead, it gives it context and humanity, resulting in a miniseries that’s predictably engrossing and unexpectedly moving.
‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Season 2 (Prime Video)
Batman: The Animated Series is one of the best animated shows of all time, so it’s understandable that a lot of people were skeptical when Prime Video announced an indirect follow-up, Batman: Caped Crusader, in 2021. When it debuted in 2024, the series was good enough to silence some naysayers and was praised for its unique depiction of the iconic DC hero as a 1930s street-level vigilante.
Season 2 just dropped on Prime Video, and it’s even better than the last season. The show retains its film noir look while delivering hard-boiled crime stories that fit well with the Dark Knight’s universe. More importantly, it finally introduces Batman’s (Hamish Linklater) longtime nemesis, the Joker (House of the Dragon’s Matthew Needham), who is all set to make the Dark Detective’s life miserable. All 10 episodes of Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 are now streaming.
‘Fightland’ Season 1 (Starz)
Duke Kilroy (Howard Charles) is a boxing champion with a bright future. He’s also a murderer. After witnessing his brother being killed, Duke avenges his sibling’s death by fatally beating one of his killers. Now, after eight years in prison, he’s once again a free man, but vengeance is still on his mind. He teams up with cartel boss Amado Rodriguez (Miguel Álvarez) to find and kill the man behind his brother’s murder – Duke’s promoter, Kingsley Marshall (Nicholas Pinnock). But Kingsley anticipates Duke’s every move, setting the stage for an epic battle that takes place in the boxing ring and the tough streets of London.
Executive produced by 50 Cent, Fightland bears more than a passing resemblance to the rapper-turned-media mogul’s Power franchise. The eight-part series has its fair share of gratuitous violence, including some pretty bloody one-on-one bareknuckle fights as well as some loud gunplay, and it can feel a bit derivative at times. But the show benefits from its gritty London locale, a dense plot that keeps the narrative turns coming and a diverse and talented cast of performers who shine in their roles. Fightland isn’t a knockout, but it more than earns its place in the ring.
‘Lollapalooza 2026’ (Hulu and Disney+)
Lollapalooza has been going strong since its ‘90s heyday, and it shows no signs of slowing down. This year’s edition promises to be the best one yet, with an eclectic lineup featuring music stars from all kinds of genres – pop, rock, house, rap and more – performing at Chicago’s Grant Park from July 30 to August 2.
Hulu and Disney+ will livestream the event, with each day featuring new acts for you to enjoy. Charli XCX and the Smashing Pumpkins headline Friday, with Slayyyter, Zara Larsson and Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard slated to perform. Saturday’s acts include Olivia Dean, Jennie, Ethel Cain and Geese, while Tate McRae, The XX, Jade and Cruz Beckham will close out the festival on Sunday.
