‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Season 1 — Netflix

Sure, Stranger Things officially ended back in December with the season 5 finale, but if you’d think for a second that Netflix would let go of one of their top streaming juggernauts for good, I have some magic beans to sell you. Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is an animated spinoff of the beloved series that takes place between the events of the OG show’s second and third seasons. Featuring an all-new cast of voice actorsTales from ’85 follows our core characters fighting new monsters and unraveling an all-new mystery in a more family-oriented tone.

The series was developed by Eric Robles and executive produced by Stranger Things’ creators and showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer, alongside director Shawn Levy. While the voice cast for most of the familiar characters are newcomers like Brett Gipson as Jim Hopper, Luca Diaz as Mike Wheeler and Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, there are a few familiar names like Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo and Lou Diamond Phillips. Since we were bummed to say goodbye to Hawkins for good, we can’t wait to dive back in.

‘Apex’ (2026) — Netflix

This upcoming Netflix original film stars Charlize Theron, Taron Egerton and Eric Bana in a thrilling survival-horror story. Set in the Australian wilderness, Apex follows Theron’s character, who travels to the outback seeking relief from her grief, but her solace is extremely short-lived: she soon finds herself being pursued by a relentless serial killer. Netflix has dubbed the movie “a ruthless game of cat and mouse,” and after loving their psychological thriller miniseries The Beast in Me, we can’t help but be intrigued by another original story hinged on a cat-and-mouse dynamic.

Apex is directed by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur, who previously directed 2022’s Beast starring Idris Elba, and the screenplay is credited to Jeremy Robbins, who wrote for The Purge television series. Since Beast was a terrifically taut high-concept thrill ride with a simple premise and effective execution, we have pretty high hopes for Kormákur’s newest film.

‘Half Man’ Season 1 — HBO Max

Baby Reindeer creator and star Richard Gadd returns two years following the success of his hit Netflix miniseries, now bringing his talents over to HBO Max with Half Man. Co-starring Gadd himself, Half Man follows two men over the span of multiple decades, exploring their tumultuous, fraternal relationship from their teenage years through adulthood. While Neill (Jamie Bell) is a more sensitive and withdrawn type, Ruben (Gadd) is an ultra-masculine ticking time bomb. The show intimately explores the dysfunction of toxic manhood and male friendship.

We were big fans of Baby Reindeer and the way the show navigated difficult themes like obsession, stalking and abuse with nuance and care, so count us in for Half Man, which looks to be even more brutal and intense. In addition to Bell and Gadd, the cast also features Neve McIntosh, Charlie De Melo and Bilal Hasna.

‘Marty Supreme’ (2025) — HBO Max

Shoe salesman and aspiring ping pong champion Marty Mauser (Timothée Chalamet) is relentlessly ambitious, but the only person really getting in his way is himself. After hustling his way into the British Open, he loses the champion title to a deaf Japanese ping pong player, Koto Endo (Koto Kawaguchi). Still, this loss doesn’t get in the way of Marty’s lofty goals and endless scheming, while pursuing an affair with a married older actress (Gwyneth Paltrow), grappling with having accidentally impregnated his childhood friend (Odessa A’zion), owing $1,500 to the International Table Tennis Association, getting arrested and so much more.

Josh Safdie‘s previous directorial works, Uncut Gems and Good Time, deeply inform his first solo directing effort without his brother, Benny. Because if you loved the anxiety-inducing chaos of both his last two films, then you’ll love the breakneck-paced comedy of errors that is Marty Supreme. Despite whiffing all nine of its nominations at this year’s Academy Awards, some might say it was snubbed. Chalamet gives the best performance of his career so far, but direction, costuming, production design and just about every other filmmaking aspect work in perfect harmony to make Mary Supreme a chaotic (and hilarious) thing to behold.

‘No Other Choice’ (2025) — Hulu

At the end of his rope after more than a year of unemployment, South Korean father and former paper industry worker Man-su (Lee Byung-hun) feels that he has no other choice but to resort to an amoral way of securing his place at the front of the job market. After narrowing down his chief competitors who could potentially bar him from that elusive job offer, he decides to eliminate the competition, literally, and kill them. However, Man-su’s seemingly simple scheme quickly gets away from him, as his desperate bid to maintain his family’s way of life turns into a fight for his very own.

This South Korean dark comedy-thriller from master of suspense Park Chan-wook has been highlighted by many critics as the best film of Park’s long and impressive career. The film is exceedingly sharp, not only in its biting sense of humor and intelligent screenplay, but also in every aspect of the technical filmmaking process: directing, editing, cinematography and set design. Park is a meticulous artist, and No Other Choice stands as a dynamic and entrancing work of art.
