Alexis Bledel on the ‘Gilmore Girls’ Revival: Rory Isn’t ‘Emotionally Connected’ to Her Affair With Logan

Her heart’s not in it? Since the Gilmore Girls revival’s Netflix launch on Friday, November 25, fans have been feverishly debating the twists and turns of Rory’s love life in the new episodes. Alexis Bledel (Rory) herself offered her take on the drama during an interview with Entertainment Tonight Saturday, November 26.

Rory has a boyfriend, Paul (Jack Carpenter), throughout Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life‘s four episodes, but that doesn’t stop her from getting cozy in London whenever possible with her former Yale sweetheart, Logan (Matt Czuchry), who happens to be engaged to a French heiress. Rory finally puts an end to the fling by handing Logan back the key he had given her to his family’s Maine home.

“It did surprise me,” Bledel told ET about Rory hooking up with her ex. “And I think it’s a little uncomfortable for [Rory], even though she’s kind of putting on a brave face that she’s fine with it.”

“I think she’s actually not that emotionally connected to it,” the Sin City actress continued. “I think she’s kind of just going through the motions at this point when we pick up with them.”

Czuchry agreed that the couple seemed to have reservations about moving on despite knowing that their romance wasn’t working.

“I think they were both in the same place at the same time,” the Good Wife alum said to ET. “Rory and Logan have always had a love for each other that has gone back and forth, and they’ve never really wanted to say goodbye. They’re both in the same place at the same time in this particular story, so it’s a mutual relationship that they’re carrying on.”

Does Rory’s shocking pregnancy announcement at the end of the revival mean that Logan is likely the father? Not so fast, according to Czuchry.

“I never really looked at it like that,” the actor said of whether Logan is the baby daddy.

“I always looked at Logan as somebody who was always trying to push Rory to be the best that she could possibly be in her personal and professional life, so I never looked at [Logan as the potential dad],” he added. “I think that maybe [Gilmore Girls producers] Amy [Sherman-Palladino] and Dan [Palladino] looked at it that way, but that’s not the way that I approached the character.”
