It’s arguably the hottest movie of the summer – Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, an epic adaptation of Homer’s Greek poem about Odysseus’ years-long journey home after the Trojan War.
The film, which stars Matt Damon as the world-weary hero, Anne Hathaway as his long-suffering wife Penelope and Tom Holland as their son Telemachus, is already playing in theaters, and it’s set to be one of the year’s biggest blockbusters.

Why Should You See ‘The Odyssey’ in 70mm IMAX?
It’s worth seeing The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX because it’s the first film in history to be shot entirely in that format. Christopher Nolan previously filmed sequences of The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger and Oppenheimer in IMAX, but the technology wasn’t there yet for a full feature to be shot in that format. Now that it’s here, Nolan is the first to do it, and he picked the perfect story to do justice to an epic canvas.
Is ‘The Odyssey’ With Seeing?
Yes! As of Friday, July 17, The Odyssey has an outstanding 96 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s unheard of for any film, let alone a blockbuster with a reported $250 million budget. For context, Nolan’s previous film, the Oscar-winning biopic Oppenheimer, achieved a 93 percent score from 509 reviews.
Aside from these critics’ scores, The Odyssey is epic filmmaking on a scale rarely seen nowadays. If most of the characters aren’t wearing spandex and fighting aliens or magicians, studios won’t fund them. But Nolan is one of the rare directors who can sell a movie on his name alone, and fortunately for the audience, he’s also a talented filmmaker who can deliver an emotionally involving story while still bringing the action.
