Bachelor Chris Soules Is Haunted by Voices in Field of Dreams-Style Season 18 Promo: Watch!

ABC’s latest Bachelor promo gives new meaning to the word “corny.” The clip, which premiered during the 2014 CMA Awards on Wednesday, Nov. 5, shows Iowa farmer Chris Soules looking for love in — wait for it — a cornfield. Because that’s where all the eligible ladies are hiding these days, right?

At first glance, the 30-second teaser seems like just a sweet ode to the season 18 hunk’s Midwestern roots. But 10 seconds in, things take a turn.

As Soules walks, voices suddenly fill the air around him — just like in the classic 1989 baseball movie Field of Dreams, which starred Kevin Costner as (you guessed it!) an Iowa farmer. The first few phrases are whispered, but as more voices join in, their pitch rises.

“If you’re the Bachelor, I’m the one,” an unseen Bachelor hopeful coos, echoing the most famous line from Field of Dreams, “If you build it, he will come.”

ABC exec Robert Mills teased the clip earlier this week, tweeting, “#BachelorNation – #CMA CROSSOVER ALERT. First #TheBachelor promo airs in Wednesday’s #CMAawards. The promo is based on a movie. Who can guess?”

Watch the preview above. Soules’ season of The Bachelor kicks off on Jan. 5 with a three-hour premiere.
