Fans first speculated that the entertainer was working on a new project after she was spotted filming multiple videos in New Orleans and Los Angeles in recent months.

Beyoncé released the album’s first single, “Formation,” in February, just one day before she performed the track alongside Coldplay and Bruno Mars at Super Bowl 50. The headline-making song sparked controversy, as both fans and critics alike lashed out at the singer for seemingly taking aim at police.

“I mean, I’m an artist and I think the most powerful art is usually misunderstood,” the Ivy Park designer explained in Elle’s May issue. “But anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken. I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe.”
