It’s happening! It’s really happening! Longtime on-again, off-again couple Penny and Leonard are finally becoming Mr. and Mrs. Hofstadter in the Season 9 premiere of The Big Bang Theory.
In a clip that CBS released on Friday, Sept. 18, the couple – who headed off to Las Vegas for a quickie ceremony in the Season 8 finale – have not only reached their destination, they’ve got their little wedding chapel picked out.
But it appears not everything will be as picture-perfect as Leonard (Johnny Galecki) may have expected their big day to be.
“The package that we paid for said that I was supposed to be getting rose petals?” the experimental physicist asks in the chapel as his bride-to-be (Kaley Cuoco) stands next to him in her short pink wedding dress and white veil. (There was no time to go dress shopping, remember?! Plus, it’s a sweet reminder of when the actress wore a pink gown for her 2013 real-life wedding to hubby Ryan Sweeting.)
“Where are the rose petals?!” the coordinator shouts.
“We’re out! … We can use the potpourri from the bathroom!” replies a disembodied female voice from beyond, bringing to mind the hilariously loud, dearly departed Mrs. Wolowitz. (RIP!)
But really, what’s a few missing rose petals when all you need is love?
“This is it,” Leonard says, turning to his lovely bride.
For fans wondering whether the pair will actually go through with the ceremony after previous false starts and the scientist’s big reveal in the season finale that he had a hot makeout session with a co-worker while on his North Sea expedition, rest easy. It’s a done deal.
Showrunner Steve Molaro confirmed last month to TVLine that Penny and Leonard will definitely become newlyweds in the premiere episode. “That’s really only the beginning of the story,” he said. “As fun and great as it is to see them get married, that’s only part of it.”
The Big Bang Theory returns Monday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
