Former Dancing With the Stars winner Xochitl Gomez is back on Boston Blue as the series navigates a case with a police shooting.
In Us‘ exclusive clip from the Friday, October 23, episode, Sean’s (Mika Amonsen) girlfriend, Penny (Gomez), shows up at the precinct in a surprise visit.
“The news said a cop was shot and they weren’t giving names,” she tells Sean. “You can’t do that to me, Sean.”
Sean apologizes for not answering his phone to ensure he wasn’t involved in the shooting. Despite promising that he is fine, Sean confides in Jonah (Marcus Scribner) about Penny’s anxiety.
“Bro, you have got to start answering your phone,” Jonah tells Sean, who replies, “I feel awful, she is really shaken up.”
Jonah, for his part, reminds Sean that Penny “doesn’t come from a police family” like they do. “This is all new to her, it can be scary,” he adds.
According to the synopsis for Friday’s episode, “a subway station shootout leaves a detective critically injured.”

“Danny and Lena race to determine what really happened before mounting public pressure and political fallout derail the investigation,” the description continues. “Meanwhile, Sean and Jonah search for a young witness whose testimony could change everything, Sarah faces increasing conflict with Chief Lanigan over the direction of the case, and Sean grapples with how police work affects those closest to him.”
Boston Blue premiered in October, expanding upon Danny’s (Donnie Wahlberg) story after he was originally introduced on Blue Bloods, which ran from 2010 to 2024. Season 2, which airs Fridays, has already gone through shakeups after Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Brian (Ryan Broussard) called it quits.
“I think that it’s going to be a hit to a lot of people,” Martin-Green, 41, exclusively told Us. “I — like Ryan — agree that the story is what’s most important, right? And so we want to service the story and we want to service these characters and we want to service this relationship.”
Martin-Green urged fans to see the biggest picture, adding, “Between these two people, I think that it definitely makes for a good story. I also think it’s going to make for some interesting twists and turns in the future as well because this breakup is going to have a ripple effect. I’m excited to see what that’s gonna look like and how people are gonna respond.”
While their relationship is on pause for now, Martin-Green isn’t ruling out a future reconciliation.
“It’s possible,” she hinted. “The door is always open.”
Martin-Green promised that the fallout from the breakup will be shown, saying, “There are always possibilities for interaction. The ripple affects that Brian taking the job in D.C. — that’s huge. That’s huge and we’re gonna see that. We’re gonna see it. We’re gonna see what those ripples look like.”
Boston Blue airs on CBS Fridays at 10 p.m. ET.
