Music man! Brandon Jenner sat down with Us Weekly on Saturday, May 11, in Malibu to celebrate the video premiere of his single “Death of Me” and revealed what inspired his new music.
“I’ve been wanting to just be able to write things from a real free-spirited place and to just write something for me and not feel like I’m seeing it through the lens of what the listener will eventually hear it as,” he explained.
As for how he describes his latest hit? The 37-year-old said, “It’s kind of like emotional junk food. … It’s kind of just playful and something that is just a snippet in time about how you feel in certain moments. … It’s about feeling like you’re attracted to somebody, but you know if you pursue that person at all in any way, that your life, this life that you built for yourself, would fall apart.”
And fans can expect Jenner to get even deeper when listening to his full solo EP Plan on Feelings, which will be available on June 14. “There’s a lot more meaning in some of the other songs. … It just took me a little while to find the sweet spot of what kind of music I wanted to make and what kind of music I wanted to perform live. While I still enjoy holding a guitar and doing the finger picking and doing the singer/songwriter thing, and that will always be a part of what I do, I am really having a good time with this new music,” he added.
While this is his first time embarking on a solo music career since splitting from his estranged wife Leah Jenner, who he also worked with in their indie group, Brandon & Leah, he told Us that creating music on their own has been great so far. “She has the ability to make the music she wants to make, I have the ability to make the music that I want to make and we’re very supportive and very helpful with each other in so many ways, which is wonderful. … We’re really happy being able to express ourselves fully and creatively. …And it’s made us really happy and fulfilled.”
