The Goblin King is back! Less than two weeks after David Bowie‘s death at age 69 following an 18-month battle with cancer, his 1986 cult-favorite film, Labyrinth, is getting a reboot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The fantasy film was the last movie directed by the late Jim Henson, and centered around a teen girl’s (Jennifer Connelly) attempt to rescue her young brother from Jareth, the Goblin King (Bowie).
Tri-Star and Jim Henson Co. are behind the new version, with Guardians of the Galaxy co-writer Nicole Perlman on board to write the script. It is not yet clear if the reboot is a sequel, or a new take on the original story.
Although the film has developed a fervent fan base in recent years, Labyrinth was seen as a flop upon release, taking in just $12.7 million on a $25 million budget and leading Henson to step away from directing.
Bowie, known primarily for his music career, hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for the first time with his final album, Blackstar, released two days prior to his January 10 death.
