Die Hard 6 in the Works, Will Be Potential Prequel to Bruce Willis’ Action Classic

Bruce Willis in Die Hard With A Vengence
Bruce Willis' classic Die Hard franchise is getting a prequel for its sixth movie.

Will he ever die? Probably not. Despite a lackluster performance at the box office from 2013’s A Good Day to Die Hard, the powers-that-be at Fox are creating a Die Hard 6.

According to Deadline, the new project is temporarily titled Die Hard Year One and will be headed up by director Len Wiseman. The site notes that Die Hard Year One will be “sort of a prequel” that will leave room for star Bruce Willis to reprise his role as NYPD cop John McClane. Willis has not officially signed on to the project, but Deadline reports that the Golden Globe winner, 60, has been kept in the loop at every stage of development.

It is possible that another actor will be brought in to play a younger version of McClane. In 2012’s Looper, Joseph Gordon-Levitt played a younger Willis.

Wiseman previously directed 2007’s Live Free or Die Hard, which was ultimately a box office success, bringing in $134 million domestically.

A Good Day to Die Hard, the franchise’s fifth installment, brought in a meager $67 million at the domestic box office, which didn’t even come close to the $92 million production budget.

The first Die Hard film put Willis on the map in 1988 and was nominated for four Oscars.
