Dorit Kemsley Says She Doesn’t ‘Really Know’ How PK Will React to Memoir, Needs to ‘Not Care’ (Exclusive)

PK Kemsley did not get an advanced copy of estranged wife Dorit Kemsley’s Unburdened memoir — and she’s not really worried about his reaction.

“Maybe if we were still married he would have [read it early],” Dorit, 49, told Us Weekly exclusively while promoting the book. “In the current situation, it felt like he needs to go buy the book.”

Dorit discussed their marriage at length in the book, which was released on Tuesday, June 2, and she doesn’t “really know” how he’ll react to certain parts.

“I think that when someone is looking for fault in something, I think it’s all about a mindset,” she explained. “I think if he goes in with a mindset that’s open and compassionate, I think that he’ll be able to look at it in one way. If he goes in looking to pick on every little thing, then of course, he’s not going to be happy.”

Dorit continued, “In order to be unburdened, I really need to not care.”

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star explained it’s “not even just about” PK’s opinion.

“I’m very happy. I feel like I’m living, right now, in bliss. I want to soak up the moment,” she said. “I want to enjoy it, and I’m certainly not going to let any people’s opinions affect this really, really amazing time.”

Dorit and PK, 58, were married for nine years before they announced their separation in May 2024. Nearly one year later, she officially filed for divorce. (The couple share kids Jagger, 12, and Phoenix, 10.)

Ahead of their split, the idea of a divorce was never on the table for Dorit.

“I loved him very, very much. I mean, with my whole soul,” she told Us. “I can tell you, I truly never, ever, ever imagined us not together for the rest of our lives.”

In Unburdened, Dorit wrote about how she fought for their marriage. Revealing that PK even consulted a lawyer when they were in a period of “estrangement” — one year before their official separation.

“I think when he had spoken to an attorney, he had reached a point where — I don’t think he had gotten to the place yet — but he was entertaining it,” Dorit told Us. “I never got to that place. The whole time I was fighting for the marriage because I wanted it to work. There was a lot of good. To me, it wasn’t all bad.”

She added, “I thought that when two people love one another, you can get through anything. When he decided that we should take a little break, for me it just became about the children and trying to preserve whatever bond him and I had to maintain a friendship.”

Dorit admitted that coparenting with PK has been “one of the most challenging aspects to separation,” which fans saw during RHOBH season 15 earlier this year.

“My wish is that PK and I can really come to a place where we both can put our differences aside and just focus on the good,” she said. “I would love for him to look at me and think about me, and think about all the good things.”

Dorit added, “I’d love for us to be friends. I think we’re much better friends than we are enemies but, unfortunately, it’s not just my opinion. He needs to reach that place himself, too. Hopefully, he will.”

Unburdened is out now.
