Dorit Kemsley detailed her relationship with estranged husband PK Kemsley at length in her debut memoir, Unburdened.
The book — published on Tuesday, June 2 — shared a complete breakdown of the pair’s relationship, from the moment Dorit and PK met to the unraveling of their marriage. The couple, who wed in 2015, announced their separation in May 2024. Dorit filed for divorce the following year. The former couple shares two kids, Jagger, 12, and Phoenix, 10.
Us Weekly previously published an excerpt from the book, revealing that Dorit only continued her Real Housewives of Beverly Hills tenure because of PK. (Dorit made her Bravo debut during 2016’s RHOBH season 7.)
“When the season wrapped and they asked me back, I stood at a quiet crossroads. Part of me hoped they wouldn’t,” Dorit wrote, in part. “But they did ask. And I said yes. The principal reason was simple: PK.”
She continued, “He was proud of me — like, genuinely proud. He loved seeing me step into the alluring world of television: the events, the fashion, the travel, the visibility.”
Dorit wrote that PK saw “something strategic” about her joining RHOBH.
“In Los Angeles, visibility has value. It opens doors. It builds leverage. It creates opportunity not just socially, but professionally, too,” she wrote. “He saw possibility where I saw disruption.”
Dorit admitted that she “didn’t want to disappoint” PK.
“I liked bringing something into our marriage that excited him. I liked seeing that spark in his eyes when he talked about what it could become,” she wrote. “I liked being admired by my husband. I liked knowing he believed I could do it. I trusted that he saw something in the opportunity that I did not yet appreciate.”

Reflecting on PK’s Drinking
Throughout the book, Dorit looked back at a quiet shift in her marriage that “began with drinking.” She wrote that as their “responsibilities multiplied,” something changed.
“I could enjoy a vodka soda and call it a night. For PK, the line blurred more easily,” she wrote. “Over time, I began to notice the difference between celebration and reliance. The drinking no longer amplified his charm; it dulled his warmth. The man who had once been magnetic and playful became, at times, unpredictable.”
Dorit recalled feeling “anxious” when he would start to drink. (PK has since publicly shared his sobriety journey.)
“Not because I wanted to control him, but because I knew how the night might unfold. I would soften my tone,” she explained. “Redirect conversations. Try to steady the mood before it tipped. He would brush it off, saying he was fine and that it was nothing.”
Dorit said the “first time” PK cursed at her, “something foundational had cracked in a way I couldn’t immediately repair” and they started marriage counseling.

How the Home Invasion Changed Things
In 2021, multiple men broke into Dorit and PK’s home and stole $100,000 of valuables. Dorit was at home with their two kids and held at gunpoint while PK was abroad for work. No suspects were ever caught.
After the incident, Dorit recalled PK working on a TV show in the U.K., which required him to frequently travel.
“I was trying to stabilize our home while he was building something abroad. I was trying to restore a sense of safety while he was talking about expansion. I was looking inward, trying to repair something fragile, while he was looking outward, energized by what was next,” she wrote. “The difference wasn’t explosive. It wasn’t a screaming fight. It was subtler than that. It was a divergence. And at times, if I am honest, his pursuits felt almost like escape.”
In the aftermath of the robbery, claims that it was a setup started to surface. Dorit and PK have continued to deny the allegations.
“The more I protected him publicly, the more alone I felt privately,” she shared. “I was beginning to understand that something had shifted between us in ways I had not yet fully processed.”
Dorit added, “The night of the invasion had changed me. What I had not yet grasped was how deeply it had altered the space between us. And before I could understand what that meant for our marriage, I had to confront what it had done to me.”
PK’s Financial Situation
Dorit wrote that when PK’s past went public regarding his money situation, she stood by him. However, they got to a point where she “wasn’t included in conversations anymore.”
She allegedly asked for “clarity” since she was contributing to their lifestyle.
“That shouldn’t be controversial. But it became so. The more I began earning from Housewives and my own ventures, the more the financial lines sharpened,” she claimed. “As my income grew, so did his expectation to decide how it was used. Not collaboratively, but decisively. I wasn’t comfortable with that. I didn’t want control. I wanted a partnership. And when I insisted on transparency, it became a friction point that never truly left us.”
Their issues, she claimed, were “about alignment.”
PK Spoke to a Lawyer 1 Year Before Their Separation
According to Dorit’s book, PK spoke with a lawyer in 2023. They were in a period of “estrangement” at the time.
“I received a message from him late one night. It stopped me cold. It was about the children,” she wrote. “About responsibility. About concern. It was not his voice. I knew instantly.”
Initially, PK denied speaking to a lawyer. Months later, he admitted it.
“That conversation happened nearly a year before we formally separated. That was a pivotal moment,” she wrote. “Not because marriages don’t struggle, but because while I was still fighting for us, still believing we were in this together, he had quietly begun exploring an exit.”
