Sara Waisglass knows Ginny & Georgia fans have been anxiously awaiting news on when season 4 will air — but she promises it is worth the wait.
“The time between season 1 and season 2 was heinous. But there was a pandemic happening so cut us some slack,” Waisglass, 28, quipped during an exclusive interview with Us pegged to her partnership with Aquaphor. “We shot season 3 in 2024 and it came out in 2025. Then we shot season 4 in 2025 and it’ll come out soon.”
Waisglass, who plays Max on the Netflix hit, is expecting the show to be back sooner rather than later. “People aren’t going to have to wait three years for it, which is all I really care about,” she added.
When season 3 of Ginny & Georgia wrapped up, Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and her brother, Austin (Diesel La Torraca), found a way to help mom Georgia (Brianne Howey) escape prison time by framing her ex Gil (Aaron Ashmore) for murder.
The family didn’t get to celebrate their new normal for long. By the end of the episode, Ginny realized her mom was pregnant — but it wasn’t clear whether Georgia’s estranged husband, Paul (Scott Porter), or love interest Joe (Raymond Ablack) was the father.
“It’s been a really, really good time [filming season 4]. I just love it so much. I could talk about it for hours,” Waisglass gushed. “I found that the ending could go either way. It could be the end or it could not be. So that’s always a good way to leave a show, because I always like when there’s a little wink, wink, nudge, nudge at the end of a show where it is leaving it open-ended.”
Waisglass told Us she has hope for “more seasons,” adding, “I do think the payoff is amazing. Obviously, it’s really cool to be on a show like this in this generation, just because everyone’s response is very public and immediate. … We’ve been very lucky because we have a really, really dedicated and passionate fan base that really roots for and understands their favorite characters.”
She continued: “I’m so excited for it to air because I just know that’s always a really fun few weeks for all of us. Our release date has not been announced, but it is soon and that is exciting.”
Throughout season 3, Max found herself drifting from her friend group. She also made the difficult decision to help her brother, Marcus (Felix Mallard), get help with his drinking and mental health struggles.
“People got a really good dose of her inner life, which I think we haven’t always seen. That has been a very beautiful thing for me. [Creator] Sarah Lampert cares deeply for Max. So in season 2, when they kind of put her through the ringer and made her a very hated villain, it hurt both of us a lot to have to do that,” she recalled. “Season 3 was really special in the sense that you got to understand why she is the way she is.”
Waisglass promised the show will spend even more time exploring Max’s perspective in season 4.
“She’s feeling left out, so it’s going to be very fun for audiences to see how she tries to get back with her friends and heal what has kind of been lost — and if her friends are up for that or not. People are going to have to wait and see,” she teased. “Picking up in season 4, you really get a good dose of what Max and Marcus’ dynamic is like, because they’ve always been this amazing dynamic duo. This is a very intense moment in their relationship — probably the most at odds they’ve ever been. It was a joy to be able to explore that relationship. That was obviously a very very special part of this season for Max for me.”
Waisglass also weighed in on the overwhelming interest in Max’s friendship with Abby (Katie Douglas), which some have hoped would grow into a romance.
“I have always loved Abby and Max’s relationship. It’s very obvious that they love each other very much. I really love seeing how much people want that — and Katie and I have talked about it, too. I did not think it was a possibility [in the past],” she teased. “But then you see that maybe Abby might be a little more fluid, and so, it did seem like it was maybe on the horizon.”
Waisglass recalled being “very strict” about not “queerbaiting” fans. “Everything is very intentional, especially in season 4. Their dynamic is very fascinating and I can’t really speak to whether audiences will be happy or sad,” she shared. “But I do think it is a wild ride and very important for a lot of young girls because I do think that is a really good reflection of female friendships.”
In addition to filming Ginny & Georgia, Waisglass has been booked and busy with movie roles in Into the Deep Blue and How to Lose a Popularity Contest, as well as a partnership with Aquaphor for their first-ever expansion into daily face and body care with the Aquaphor Hydrating Daily Lotion and Aquaphor Moisturizing Cream.
“I’m a pretty low-key person. When you work in film, you are constantly being made up and glammed up and you’re wearing a lot of heavy makeup. It can do a real number on your skin. So Aquaphor has always been a product that I’ve reached for,” she told Us. “It’s super easy. Every time they release a new product, it’s just something cool to add to my routine that I know I can trust and that I know will work with my skin. I’m very low-maintenance, so it’s really nice to just have a nice, solid and clean brand that I can trust.”
She concluded: “It’s dependable and my skin reacts super nicely to it. Lightweight and breathable products are super important to me. Especially the new line that just dropped, that’s worked really well for me.”
