Armie Hammer, who is nominated for best supporting actor in a motion picture for his role as Oliver in Call Me by Your Name, shared a photo from the dinner on Instagram on Sunday, January 7. “Thank you #jamesfranco for hosting a dinner for all of the actors nominated for a Golden Globe,” he captioned the post. “It was a special evening I’m sure none of us will forget.”
Hammer, 31, posed alongside his Call Me by Your Name costar Timothée Chalamet, as well as Battle of the Sexes’ Steve Carell, The Shape of Water’s Richard Jenkins, The Post’s Tom Hanks, The Greatest Showman’s Hugh Jackman, Darkest Hour’s Gary Oldman, Baby Driver’s Ansel Elgort, The Disaster Artist’s Franco, Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’s Sam Rockwell.
All of the men pictured are nominated for either best actor in a musical or comedy, best actor in a drama or best supporting actor in a motion picture. Several other top male nominees, including Phantom Thread’s Daniel Day-Lewis and All the Money in the World’s Christopher Plummer, were noticeably absent from the photo. It is unclear if they attended the dinner.
Franco, 39, opened up about the dinner during E!’s red carpet coverage on Sunday night. “I thought, ‘Why not? How many times does this happen in your life?'” the actor told Ryan Seacrest. “I invited all of the supporting actors and actors in comedy and drama out to dinner. … It was incredible.”
While the men celebrated ahead of the show, this year’s female nominees joined together in the form of fashion. Stars including Meryl Streep and Allison Janney have confirmed that they will attend the Globes in all-black outfits in support of the new campaign Time’s Up, which aims to fight sexual harassment, assault and inequality for women in the workplace.
The 2018 Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Seth Meyers, air on NBC Sunday, January 7, at 8 p.m. ET.
