Looks like the joke is on Ricky Gervais.
After the British comic claimed he was asked to consider hosting the Golden Globes for the third year in a row, a spokesperson for the awards show says Gervais isn't welcome back in 2012.
"There is no truth to this rumor. We have not asked him to come back. Nice try, Ricky," Philip Berk, president of the Golden Globes, said in a statement.
During his opening monologue at the January 16 bash, Gervais, 49, ruthlessly mocked Charlie Sheen, Angelina Jolie, Ashton Kutcher, John Travolta and others in the audience.
Though his razor-sharp barbs weren't well-received by most of the celebs in attendance, Gervais still stands by his controversial sense of humor.
