HGTV’s Totally ‘90s House is pulling out all the stops with star-studded contestants, home renovation challenges and a shocking cast change.
In Us’ exclusive first look at the trailer for the show, which premieres August 26, Brian Austin Green from Beverly Hills, 90210, Beverley Mitchell of 7th Heaven fame and Full House‘s Jodie Sweetin are paired off against Melissa Joan Hart from Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Boy Meets World‘s Matthew Lawrence and The Cosby Show alum Keshia Knight Pulliam.
Host Jaleel White teases a surprise shakeup, saying, “And something so shocking [takes place] that one team will never be the same.”
Hart is then seen telling her team that she has to “step away for a little while” — which paves the way for her former Melissa & Joey costar and Matthew’s brother Joey Lawrence to step in.
Each team is tasked with looking across the country for houses stuck in the 1990s. After picking the perfect throwback home in need of a major overhaul, the groups get help from mentors Carter Oosterhouse and Sabrina Soto as they “modernize the dated spaces while preserving their nostalgic charm in hopes of creating the ideal ‘90s-inspired dream home — to win bragging rights and $25,000 for their chosen charity,” according to the official synopsis.
“Everybody loves the ‘90s again,” White previously said in a press release. “The fits are back, the playlists are on repeat, and kids who weren’t even born yet are binge-watching the shows we made famous. But while some things from the ‘90s are timeless … some of y’all never got the memo that the decade ended.”

He continued: “We asked America to show us the homes still living in the past, and the response was incredible. Now it’s time for the ultimate throwback transformation. Get ready for the biggest ‘90s house battle ever.”
In Us‘ first look, the trios get their hands dirty while also finding time to have fun at the expense of the opposing team. Green, Mitchell and Sweetin kick things off with a prank call that inspires Matthew, Joey and Pulliam to order 100 pizzas that have to be delivered to the other group — and they have to pay for them.
Totally ‘90s House will also surprise HGTV fans with appearances from their favorite network personalities.
Married real estate developers Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt from 100 Day Dream Home will decide which team delivered the ideal primary bedroom, complete with an upcycled item from the original room incorporated into the design.
Rock the Block‘s Drew Lachey channels his own ’90s nostalgia while evaluating the primary bathroom remodels. Mina Starsiak Hawk from Good Bones is set to judge each home’s first impression based on the foyer and den, while Trading Spaces‘ Paige Davis has the job of critiquing the dining and living rooms. Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge‘s Jonathan Adler later tours every space to crown the winner of Totally ‘90s House.
Along with Totally ‘90s House, HGTV is launching HGTV’s House Call: ‘90s Edition (working title). The YouTube companion series will take viewers “inside the homes of some of their favorite celebrities from the decade, revealing their design style, personal stories, and everyday spaces,” according to the show synopsis.
In each of the six episodes, which will premiere later this month, a do-it-yourself expert will help the celebs tackle a home project on their wish list.
Totally ‘90s House premieres on HGTV Wednesday, August 26, at 9 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on HBO Max.
