Katy Perry, John Mayer: Our Music Video Is “More Authentic” Than Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s “Bound 2”

Katy Perry told Ellen DeGeneres her music video, "Who You Love," with John Mayer is "more authentic" than Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's "Bound 2."

Is "Who You Love" better than "Bound 2?" Katy Perry seems to think so! During a joint appearance with boyfriend John Mayer on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, Dec. 20, the 29-year-old singer praised their new music video and gave a slight diss to Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's recent collaboration.

"Was it your response to Kim and Kanye's 'Bound 2?'" host Ellen DeGeneres asked of Perry and Mayer's video.

"Yes. I thought our response was a little bit more authentic because my hair was blowing in the right direction, though . . ." Perry joked.

In "Bound 2," Kardashian goes topless and straddles West while riding on a motorcycle. "She was facing backwards, right? So her hair should have been [blowing the other direction]," DeGeneres agreed.

In "Who You Love," Perry, Mayer and other couples ride a mechanical bull together. "We did it in one day and they were real-life couples," Perry explained. "All of us and they were put on a bull and just shot in slow motion." Mayer, 36, added with a laugh, "That was the first time I did it sober. That was the first sober bull ride."

The couple of 17 months (with a three-month break earlier this year) admitted to DeGeneres that they have had their ups and downs in their relationship. "I think when two people are involved, someone other than yourself, you have to figure out a compromise in a good way," Perry explained. "And there's a lot of respect. You know, I really adore him and respect him as a musician and that's why I was excited and agreed to do a song with him."

"We have a lot of fun," the "Roar" singer added. "We have music as an understanding and love between each other and we connect. It's like he understands what I do because he does the same thing. And so after a long day, if it's been tough, I don't really have to go into it. He just gets it. So it's nice with that understanding."

Perry and Mayer also told DeGeneres that they will be spending Christmas together this year.

"We do stocking stuffers and we don't know if we bought each other presents . . ." Perry explained. But Mayer revealed he already has a gift picked out for Perry. "The present is all set," he confirmed.
