Stephen Colbert, James Corden Skewer Donald Trump’s Meeting With Kanye West

A meeting of two very interesting minds. The late-night talk show hosts had plenty to say about Donald Trump’s tete-a-tete with Kanye West Tuesday, December 13.

The 39-year-old rapper visited Trump Tower, where the President-elect, 70, says they talked about “life.” West later tweeted that they were discussing “multicultural issues” such as “bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums and violence in Chicago.” West also implied he would delay his own run for president — which he’s previously said would be in 2020 — for four more years to give Trump a second term, tweeting “#2024.”

The meeting, predictably and hilariously, inspired Stephen Colbert. “You can tell it was a high-powered meeting because Kanye is wearing his formal sweatsuit,” Colbert said of West’s informal look on The Late Show. “Now obviously a meeting like this is a security risk: gathering the two most powerful American narcissists in the same room. Just for security reasons, they had to keep Shia LaBeouf in an undisclosed location for continuity of government.”

He added that the two men are going to release an album together. “It’s called The Deportation of Pablo. Can’t wait.”

James Corden poked fun at Trump’s response to reporters who asked what the duo were conversing about in the businessman turned politician’s private residence. Trump replied, “Just friends, just friends and he’s a good man.”

The Carpool Karaoke creator said incredulously on The Late Late Show, “Just friends? What happened in that apartment? The only time you answer ‘just friends’ after leaving someone’s place in the morning is when you definitely hooked up. We’re just friends. We’re not having sex.”

Corden then went on to compare the two stars. “What could these two have to talk about, though? I can’t think of anything they could possibly have in common. They are completely, totally different people from two different worlds. Trump goes on these crazy Twitter rants at 3 in the morning and Kanye, well, he also does that all the time. One of them famously appears on a huge reality show. The other one was also a huge reality show. One of them is constantly claiming that award shows are rigged and the other one, that’s a bad example.”
