One for the ages! Lauren Hashian celebrated her first wedding anniversary with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on Tuesday, August 18, by releasing a song that she wrote for him.
The singer-songwriter, 35, first presented “Step Into a Love Like This” to the Fast and the Furious star, 48, on their wedding day in Hawaii, and now she has decided to share it with the public.
“‘Step Into a Love Like This’ is the most personal and rewarding song I’ve ever written,” Hashian said in a statement. “Personal because every word is from my heart and rewarding because I had the honor of surprising the man I now call my husband with this song on the day we were married in Hawaii in front of our family, friends and two beautiful daughters, Jazzy and Tia.”
The Boston native cowrote the track with her friends Naz Tokio, Mike Zombie and James Kang two weeks before saying “I do” with Johnson, whom she started dating in 2007. It was also the first song she was able to record after a vocal cord injury left her unable to sing for six months.
“Having been together for more than a decade, I wanted him to feel how much that day and our entire life together has meant to me,” she said in the statement. “It was emotional for me to reflect on the amazing years we’ve spent together with so much gratitude and to also think about our new future we get to build. Sharing it with Dwayne and his heartfelt reaction was one of the many moments of our unforgettable day and celebration that I’ll hold onto forever.”
Hashian and Johnson surprised fans in August 2019 when they announced via Instagram that they secretly married. Their wedding took place one day after what would have been the bride’s late father Sib Hashian’s 70th birthday.
Four months later, the actor admitted that he had been a bit nervous about walking down the aisle again after his 2007 split from Dany Garcia, with whom he shares daughter Simone.
“My divorce did a number on me,” he told WSJ. Magazine in December 2019. “I wasn’t fearful of getting married again, there was just some hesitancy. But Lauren was incredibly patient: ‘I love you, you love me, we have this amazing life together — no presh.’”
