Leslie Mann admitted she was totally flustered meeting Spa Weekend costar Adam Demos after watching his steamy performance on Sex/Life.
“The first day I met you, we were rehearsing with [directors] Scott [Moore] and Jon [Lucas],” Mann, 54, recalled during a Wednesday, August 12, cast interview on SiriusXM’s Smith Sisters Live.
Mann began to blush when she recounted her first interaction with Demos, 41, telling the group, “And, I watched Sex/Life during covid alone. I was quarantining. I had that [connection].”
“Where are you going with this?” Spa Weekend castmate Isla Fisher asked as everyone in the room, including Mann and Demos, broke into laughter.
Demos, who was seated behind Mann in the interview, joked, “I’m just going to leave the room while you guys finish this conversation.”
Mann regained her composure, explaining that after seeing everything Demos had to offer — he famously went full-frontal during one of many sex scenes on Netflix’s Sex/Life, which ran from 2021 to 2023 — she wasn’t sure how to interact with him in person.
“When I was told I was going to meet Adam, I was like, ‘Oh, oh, oh, OK, that’s good,’” Mann recalled. “And then I was like, you know, kind of nervous to meet him because I had this, you know, private time with him.”
The actress started to belly laugh after her confession and Demos wiped away tears he was laughing so hard.
“Oh, God,” Mann continued. “And I remember he walked in, he had his sunglasses on his head and I was trying to be cool and I was not cool.”
She noted, “I was really sweating and I remember looking at him in the eye and trying to, you know, just be cool and my eyes went [back and forth], like, they just shifted.”
Demos revealed he didn’t notice the eye shift, noting that he was nervous meeting Mann as well.
“But I’m also coming into your movie, in your world,” he recalled. “So I’m like, ‘Far out, I hope I can show up,’ and so we’re both thinking two things and we’re like, ‘Oh, boy, hope we can do the job.’”
Mann, who has been married to Judd Apatow since 1997, praised Demos for his composure, noting he appeared totally unfazed during their first meeting.
“You seemed so much more calm and cool and collected than me,” she said. “Anyway, but that happened. Yeah, I’m glad I got that off my chest.”
While Demos won’t be as raunchy and exposed as he was week after week on Sex/Life, he does play a similarly attractive guy in Spa Weekend.
In the movie, which stars Mann, Fisher, 50, Anna Faris and Michelle Buteau, four friends escape to a luxury spa retreat to finally unwind.
Amid their friendship time and spa treatments, Mann’s character, Jane, finds herself falling for the resort’s hot yoga teacher, Kai, played by Demos.
“Do you know any kind of tantric massage?” Kai asks Jane in the trailer.
A bashful Jane replies, “I know what you’re up to. This place hires good-looking Australian guys to flirt with all the moms.”
Spa Weekend hits theaters on Friday, August 21.
