Lucy Hale spoke about her audition for Fifty Shades of Grey.

Auditioning for a role in Fifty Shades of Grey was fifty shades of "uncomfortable" for Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale

The actress, 25, admitted this week that she went out for a part in the upcoming adaptation of E L James' raunchy erotic novel, and opened up to MTV News about the casting process for the risque flick.

"It actually was just me [in the audition]," she said. "It was a two-page monologue of exactly what you would think it would be." Fifty Shades famously details the S&M relationship that forms between a college co-ed Anastasia Steele and a high-powered businessman named Christian Grey.

"Very uncomfortable," Hale continued about her audition. "But it was sort of one of those things where you just had to go for it or you're just gonna look lamehopefully, I didn't look lame."

The actress and singer told MTV News that she was thinking about playing Anastasia as it was "something a little different" from her past work. In addition to her role on PLL, Hale has also made cameos on How I Met Your Mother, CSI: Miami, and Private Practice in recent years.

While the ABC Family star did not land the gig, Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith's daughter Dakota Johnson did. She stars in the film adaptation opposite Once Upon a Time actor Jamie Dornan, who came into the role following the dramatic exit of Charlie Hunnam.

"I think any girl in my demographic would have loved to be a part of it," Hale added about the film. "Mainly, I was just interested in doing something risky and doing something a little different than my character on PLL so it took me out of my comfort zone."

Hale isn't the first actress who has spoken about the taboo nature of the Fifty Shades audition. Carrie Diaries star Chloe Bridges went out for a part in the flick and told Cosmopolitan in September 2013 about the script material she received, "The scene was, like, the girl telling her friends about some sexcapade she had, but it goes into extreme detail and uses the word 'sperm' a couple times. I was like, 'I don't know guys, I have to go home to my grandparent's house in a few months at Christmas, I don't know if I can do this.'"
