Minka Kelly made a rare comment about Netflix’s shocking decision to cancel Ransom Canyon.
“I felt like we had such a good thing. We all love each other so much,” Kelly, 46, said on the Tuesday, November 3, episode of “Mom’s Car” podcast before Dax Shepard pointed out that the show had “however many hundreds of millions of minutes” streamed on Netflix.
Kelly called the choice to pull the plug on the show “sad,” adding, “I don’t understand these things sometimes.”
Deadline confirmed in September that Netflix chose not to pick up Ransom Canyon for season 3. Kelly broke her silence that same month, writing via Instagram, “Appreciating this little trip down memory lane as we say farewell. All good things must come to an end. And so it is.”
She continued: “Thank you all for giving us two beautiful seasons! I love you forever my Ransom Canyon family!!”
Her onscreen love interest, Josh Duhamel, meanwhile, has also spoken out about the surprising news.
“I thought [it was safe] because the show was No. 1 for almost two weeks and the numbers looked really, really good and people really loved the show,” he told Us in October about how he “was bummed” to see the show “not get picked up” for season 3.
“I was a little upset with Netflix for not giving the audience another season, because people really did love the show … but that’s the business,” he continued. “At the same time, I get it. They have their reasons for why things stay and why things go. I don’t always understand those reasons, but it’s not my job to question.”
He concluded: “I’ve just gotta move on. I just feel bad for the fans who are really invested in it, and that’s it, unfortunately.”
Before the show came to an end, showrunner April Blair exclusively revealed what would have happened in season 3 after Staten (Duhamel) and Quinn (Kelly) got together.
“For me, Staten and Quinn are meant to be together and that is the true north of our series. I don’t foresee continuing to split them up and put them together and split them up and put them together,” she told Us in July. “I think moving forward from season 2, Yancy’s whole drive is to win back his family and the lengths he goes to do that aren’t always the smartest or the wisest.”
Blair teased the challenges headed the fictional couple’s way.
“Being halfway through the season 3 writers’ room, I can tell you there are many, many more obstacles to come because I think we pitched it to Netflix as season 1 and season 2 are about their journey to choose each other. But once you choose someone and you really begin a relationship, that’s where the real work begins,” she added. “That’s where you uncover people’s dirty little secrets and people’s things they don’t tell. All of the challenges, even the silly stuff.”
Ransom Canyon is currently streaming on Netflix.
