Pick up your sticks and get in line — Drumline is back! VH1 is giving new life to the cult 2002 comedy with its upcoming TV movie sequel Drumline: A New Beat.
The first trailer for Drumline 2 debuted on Tuesday, Oct. 21, teasing all of the fanfare, drama, and percussion skills that the original film was known for.
The clip opens with shots of the blue-and-yellow-adorned drumline, dancers, and marching band at A&T University and the introduction of Drumline favorite Sean Taylor (played by Leonard Roberts), and an early peek at the first installment’s star Nick Cannon, who played newcomer Devon Miles.
Sean and Devon’s legacy is set to be continued in the sequel by incoming student Dani, played by Alexandra Shipp. The bright young woman defies her parents’ wishes, choosing to attend A&T University in the hopes of joining the drumline.
After montages of workouts, practices, impressive performances, parties, and early signs of love, Cannon, 34, makes his big return to the line. Sean and Devon pick up their drumsticks once more and show off some serious skills.
Once questioning if they still had the talents, the two drummers prove that they do, as Devon remarks, “Yeah, we still do that.”
