Oprah Winfrey could be heading to the Great White Way.

The legendary talk show host is strongly considering a stint on Broadway when she wraps The Oprah Winfrey Show's 25-year run May 25.

"I have a stack of plays in my bag right now that I am reading," Winfrey, 57, tells The Chicago Tribune of her theater aspirations. "And just this past weekend, I was in New York meeting with producers. We were just talking about what would be the best route to take. But yes, this is really going to happen. … Life is too short."

Winfrey, who produced The Color Purple musical 20 years after starring as Sofia in the film, says she's eyeing an ensemble production.

News of Winfrey's Broadway aspirations is not new, however. When theater director Kenny Leon was preparing to open Fences on Broadway in 2010, he approached Winfrey to appear, but her demanding Oprah Show filming schedule wouldn't allow it.

Now that she'll have her days free, Winfrey is proactively discussing a transition to Broadway and has no hesitations this time around.

"[After The Oprah Show wraps] it's time to do something for fun," Winfrey tells the Tribune. "This next phase of my life should be pure delight."
