Off with his he“A”d. On Pretty Little Liars’ Tuesday, August 30, summer finale, three former couples finally kissed, three characters got shocking news, someone got decapitated and three key players may also be dead. Standard. (Click here for 10 new spoilers about the final 10 episodes!)
Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Ali (Sasha Pieterse), Mona (Janel Parrish) and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) tried to find Hanna (Ashley Benson) after she went off the grid on a solo mission to torture Noel (Brant Daugherty). For once, the group turned to the police and reported her missing.
All Tied Up
Hanna was in a room with Noel, who she tied to a chair after knocking him unconscious. She set up a camera to capture Noel admitting that he was A.D., but when he was silent, she cut his leg with a knife and drew blood. Later, she took a vial of blood to a testing facility to confirm that Noel is Mary Drake’s other child, meaning he would be A.D.
Ezra and Aria had a video call before he came home so that they could talk about their relationship, you know, FaceTime to FaceTime. Ezra told Aria that he forgave her for deleting his missed call from Nicole. When Ezra didn’t return home hours after his flight was supposed to land, Aria turned on the news and saw that Nicole had been found — and that Ezra was with her.
Cry for Help
Hanna called Mona to help her with Noel. When Mona showed up, she pulled the flash drive proving Noel tortured the Liars in the dollhouse (pics or it didn’t happen, right?) out of his sock. As Hanna went back to the house and lied to her friends, along with Marco, about her whereabouts, Noel woke up.
Caleb and Hanna went back to her house, where Caleb momentarily turned into a Ryan Gosling meme as he told her that he wouldn’t leave her alone for the night: “I hate to break it to you, girl, but you’re stuck with me.” *Swoon*
Caleb then proceeded to give Hanna a speech that can only be described as the spoken-word poem of our generation, and should be written as such. Without further ado:
“You don’t do dishes until they mold.
You eat French fries in bed, cold.
You don’t gas up the car until it starts beeping.
You won’t admit that we’re meant to spend the rest of our lives together.
You send food back if the waiter breathes on it funny,
and you know what? There’s probably milk in that fridge that’s older than me.”
They proceeded to have a makeout so intense that it may have put Spencer and Marco’s elevator hookup to shame (see you in 7b, Sparco), and then they dropped to the floor to get it on. We’re not sure what’s next for these two, but we are here for the #haleb hookups.
On the Case
Marco (Nicholas Gonzalez) brought Spencer’s favorite dinner to her house, hinting that Toby (Keegan Allen) may have helped him with her order. Nice work with that one, detective. Later, Spencer went to see Toby to say goodbye before he left for Maine with Yvonne, but before he walked away, he turned around to ask this extremely bold question: “Can I kiss you, just one last time? Just to say goodbye?” They kissed, and let’s just say we don’t know anyone who says goodbye quite like that. As he prepared to leave later that night with Yvonne, Toby opened his phone to text Spencer: “Heading out soon. And I just want to say,” but deleted the text. Life would be a lot easier if people started completing sentences in Rosewood.
Baby on the Way
Ali confided to Emily that she is pregnant with Archer’s baby. As they sat on Ali’s couch watching a movie, they started making out. Well, it seems not even a possibly dead, fraudulent, mask-wearing husband’s baby can keep Emison apart.
Hanna got a call that the DNA and blood didn’t match, meaning Noel was not Mary’s other child. Hanna finally admitted to the rest of the Liars what she did, and they decided to confront Noel together, only to find he had escaped — with Hanna’s camera.
The Beginning of the End Game
Mona and Caleb watched Jenna (Tammin Sursok) at the hotel bar. Jenna walked over and pulled back her hood, revealing that she was actually Sydney, who was sent by Jenna to throw them off. (In case you’re losing track of characters reappearing this season, Sydney was the swimmer in season 5 who ended up being a part of Jenna’s crew on a mission to take down the Liars, but then turned out to be sort of good to them.) “Compliments of Jenna Marshall,” Sydney said. “Cheers.”
The Liars went to the address Noel gave them in order to get Hanna’s camera. After hearing Jenna’s voice on a speaker, they went upstairs to retrieve the camera. When they got back downstairs, Emily realized that she left her phone upstairs. (Girl, you had one job!) She and Hanna went back up, and Noel appeared. “You really think we’d let you leave?” he said. “You know too much.”
Jenna came out downstairs with a gun. After the Liars stayed silent, Jenna went upstairs. They tried to call the police, but of course, they didn’t have service.
Noel, Hanna and Emily had a brief struggle that caused him to accidentally fall on his own ax, sending his head flying. Is #villainfail a thing? Jenna shot Spencer in the chest, but just as she was about to shoot her again, Mary Drake appeared and stopped her. The Liars appeared and asked Mary what she did to Spencer. “Spencer, I would never hurt you,” Mary Drake said. “I’m your mother.” Spencer looked shocked for a moment, and then closed her eyes.
An ambulance pulled up next to a car crash, where Toby and Yvonne were laying bloody and unconscious. In a separate car, Jenna woke up confused, asking the driver, “Who are you? Did you shoot Spencer?” He pulled off a face mask and Jenna realized that she was in the car with A.D.
While Spencer’s fate is currently unclear, A.D took a Spencer figurine and put it in a toy grave.
Tell Us: What did you think of the summer finale? And do you think Toby and Yvonne are dead?
