Crazy good! Before she won a Golden Globe for her work on the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rachel Bloom looked for her big break on Saturday Night Live. The actress shared her 2012 audition tape via Twitter on Thursday, September 1.
Bloom, 29, worked up the nerve to do so after the NBC variety series asked fans to nominate stars they want to see as an #SNLhost in the upcoming season. Bloom’s costar Donna Lynne Champlin nominated the musical theater performer and quickly got a reaction out of her.
“I could finally do the impression of Kate Hepburn auditioning for Space Jam that was on my SNL audition tape!” Bloom replied on Twitter. Entertainment Weekly piped in then and dared her to post it — and she did.
Ok @EW, here’s my SNL audition tape from 2012 in which I did Kate Hepburn auditioning for “Space Jam.” pic.twitter.com/eJj0R17mQO

“Ok @EW, here’s my SNL audition tape from 2012 in which I did Kate Hepburn auditioning for ‘Space Jam,'” she wrote alongside the throwback clip.

In the grainy footage, Bloom plays Katharine Hepburn going on an audition for Bugs Bunny in the 1996 comedy. In character as the late actress, she pretends to chomp on a carrot and name-drops basketball legend Michael Jordan.
Bloom, who never got hired by the show but was once an intern, gave a shout-out to viewers following the release of the clip. “Thanks to the people giving me notes on my 2012 SNL audition,” she wrote. “I can’t wait to go back in time to 2012 and tell myself! #bookedit.”
