Robin Thicke is still carrying an Olympic-sized torch for Paula Patton — but she’s been trying to extinguish the flame for months, sources reveal in the new issue of Us Weekly. Pals say the Baggage Claim actress, 38, started pushing for a split last August, right around the time her husband was making headlines for his raunchy VMAs duet with Miley Cyrus.
“Robin begged Paula to stand by him until the controversy died down,” one insider tells Us of the Cyrus backlash, which was followed by a claim from New York City socialite Lana Scolaro that Thicke, 37, had grabbed her butt and made out with her. Adds another source: “They fought nonstop.”
Pals say the split has been a long time coming, but Thicke is nonetheless struggling to adjust. Prior to the Feb. 24 announcement about their separation, the “Lost Without U” singer canceled shows in Atlanta and Orlando to spend time with his and Patton’s 3-year-old son, Julian, at Disneyland.
“He lost money but didn’t care. He was choked up and worried about his boy,” a source tells Us of the “Blurred Lines” crooner, who told concertgoers on Feb. 27 that he was trying to “get [his] girl back.”
