Sarah Chalke revealed which Roseanne costars she would love to bring over to the Scrubs revival.
“I was so incredibly lucky to have [that be] pretty much my first job,” Chalke, 50, exclusively told Us of her role as Becky Conner on Roseanne from 1993 to 1997. “I’d worked on small things, but that was going to work, and I would just watch all of these amazing comedians like Sandra Bernhard, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, John Goodman and Johnny Galecki.”
Chalke called her time on set an “embarrassment of riches of comedians to watch work every day.”
“So any of them [would be great on Scrubs],” she continued. “Obviously, to have Lecy [Goranson, who previously played Becky] come would be super fun. And we’ve only worked together a handful of times because we were on the show at different times [playing the same character].”
Chalke became a household name as the second Becky on Roseanne. She was then cast as Elliot on Scrubs — a role she reprised in the revival.
Scrubs, which originally aired from 2001 to 2010, followed the lives of employees at the fictional teaching hospital Sacred Heart. The hit series starred Chalke, Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Judy Reyes, Neil Flynn, Ken Jenkins and John C. McGinley.
Many of the cast returned for this year’s revival, which follows J.D. as he returns to Sacred Heart as its new chief of medicine. After playing fictional doctors for nearly a decade, Chalke previously reflected on new medical fears she picked up from the show.
“You do all these medical story lines, and you’re like, ‘Oh, I didn’t even know that was on the table.’ That’s an option,” she shared with Us in September. “Something can happen to you on the show, then you get, like, a similar symptom a week later.”
After coming back, Chalke has enjoyed exploring new story lines — especially after Elliot and J.D.’s (Braff) offscreen divorce.
“I was really excited about the jumping-off point. It was so smart to not have them starting off in a marriage raising their kids,” she recalled. “There’s so much more room for comedy and for drama if they’re divorced and then having to work in the same hospital. Then I assumed, with it being Scrubs, that there would be some different twists and turns with their relationship.”
Scrubs airs on ABC Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET and streams on Hulu the next day.
