Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn are always down to clown their devoted Scandal fans.
“I really am so grateful for the healthy relationships that I was able to have, also, with the men on that show like Scott Foley and Tony Goldwin,” Washington, 49, said during the Tuesday, April 14, episode of the “Good Hang” podcast. “I love their wives. They love my husband.”
Podcast host Amy Poehler noted that, despite Washington being married to Nnamdi Asomugha, people still “ship” her and Goldwyn in real life. (Goldwyn has been married to wife Jane Musky since 1987.)
“So hard,” Washington agreed. “By the way, we like to f*** with people. I post stuff all the time with Tony.”
Poehler added, “And that’s how you can tell everyone’s secure.”
Washington played the iconic Olivia Pope on the Shonda Rhimes-created drama for seven seasons, from 2012 to 2018. She shared the screen with Goldwyn, who played her on-again, off-again love interest President Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III, for the duration of the show’s run.
“I love that people ship them. I love it. I love it so much,” Washington continued. “I love that people get into arguments. … I love that we gave people romance, that we gave people escapism, that we made people think, that we made people feel. I love all of that.”
In the years that Scandal has ended, fans have hoped for a reboot — and the cast is totally on board.
Foley (who played Olivia’s other love interest, Jake Ballard) offered his thoughts to Us Weekly exclusively in December 2025 about bringing the show back.
“I think it would take Shonda Rhimes getting excited, having an idea of where all those characters, where they are in their lives,” he said at the time. “Kerry’s everywhere right now. She’s got the new Knives Out sequel. I think it would take her slowing down a minute to give us some time to shoot some more Scandal.”
Earlier this year, Washington echoed this sentiment, explaining to Variety that Rhimes has to ultimately be the one to ask.
“But you know, I do have these imaginary children that I’ve been taking selfies with all over town,” she quipped in March, referring to actors Chase Infiniti and Tyriq Withers who have been referred to by fans as Olivia and Fitz’s kids.
Washington spoke further about Infiniti and Withers during her “Call Her Daddy” appearance that same month.
“But this joke about Chase Infiniti and Tyriq being our children, this is like the joke that will not die. And I love it so much,” she gushed. “They actually do [look like us]. She has my smile, and Tyriq has his smile. It’s so absurd.
